The internet is a lot like Ancient Egypt, people write on walls and worship cats”. Whenever I browse links I am sent I think of this sentence, although I don’t do a lot of wall writing I certainly am a cat worshipper. From talking cats on YouTube to memes like Grumpy Cat, I am a sucker for them all. I wish to share my internet cat phenomenon knowledge and point you in the right direction for endless hours of digital feline fun.

“I had fun once, it was awful”. This rather un-amused cat became an over night sensation after being posted in Reddit on 22nd September 2012. Tardar Sauce, yes, that’s her name, is affected by feline dwarfism, resulting in her wobbly gait and hilarious face. The kitty’s expressive face is not only plastered all over the internet but you can own your very own Grumpy Cat mug, t-shirt and there’s

A Persian Blue with manias of grandeur who is planning to take over the world with his trusty assistant, the Golden Retriever Boots, foul mouthed and with a penchant for whiskey- sounds like stuff dreams are made of right? Though not a real life cat, this chubby and mischievous cartoon cat has won the hearts of many a cat fanatic. The YouTube videos have now given life to a wide range of illustrations and collaborations from advertising to books. This Japanese Scottish Fold’s escapades have seduced thousands of cat fans around the world. Maru’s love of boxes is as endearing as it is entertaining, and there’s plenty of material to enjoy too. Maru’s YouTube channel boasts 256 videos of his work, viewed over 200m times. Maru has moved into TV too as he’s been starring in Japanese commercials since 2007.

A cat from Seattle, Henri stars in his own philosophically reflective films, narrated in French. The embodiment of the lazy and somewhat depressed cat, Henri is the opposite of the illiterate memes from “I Can Has Cheeseburger?” clearly preferring a bloc of the highest quality fois gras and then complaining about it. Henri does also busy himself with the more concrete things in life making $1,000 a week on his website, advertising cat food, and releasing books. He also won the Golden Kitty at the Internet Cat Video Awards in 2012.
